Entering VPN Connection details
*If you are already connected to the VPN please see “Mount The Shared Folder/Server” below
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Network.
- Click the Add button in the list on the left, click the Interface pop-up menu, then choose VPN.
- Click the VPN Type pop-up menu, then choose L2TP over IPSec. Give the VPN a name (Work VPN), then click Create.
- Enter the server address as 00.00.000.000 [1] and the account name as your VPN Login email [2].
- Click Authentication Settings, then enter your password [2] and the Shared Secret [3].
- Click Apply, then click OK.
Select “Show VPN status in menu bar”. You can use this icon to connect to the network and switch between VPN and normal internet. Please disconnect from the VPN when not using the server
- To connect, select the newly created VPN on the list and click connect.
At the end of your tenure, you can remove the VPN configuration, select the VPN network connection service in the list and click the Remove button .
Opening the shared folder from the server
- In the Finder on your Mac, choose Go > Connect to Server.
- Type afp://000.000 [3] in the network address for the server in the Server Address field. Click Connect.

Entering VPN Connection details
Before you can connect to a VPN, you must have a VPN profile on your PC.
- Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet > VPN > Add a VPN connection.
- In Add a VPN connection, do the following:
- For VPN provider, choose Windows (built-in).
- In the Connection name box, enter a name you’ll recognize (for example, My Personal VPN). This is the VPN connection name you’ll look for when connecting.
- In the Server name or address box, enter the address for the VPN server.
- For VPN type, choose L2TP over IPSec.
- Enter your VPN username and password [2] in the respective boxes.
- Select Save.
Connecting to the VPN
When you have a VPN profile, you’re ready to connect.
- On the far right of the taskbar, select the Network icon (either or ).
- Select the VPN connection you want to use, then do either of the following depending on what happens when you select the VPN connection:
- If the Connect button displays under the VPN connection, select Connect.
- If the VPN section in Settings opens, select the VPN connection there, then select Connect.
- If you’re prompted, enter your VPN username and password [2]
When connected, the VPN connection name will display Connected underneath it. To see if you’re connected to the VPN while you’re doing things on your PC, select the Network icon on the far right of the taskbar, then see if the VPN connection says Connected.
Opening the shared folder from the server
1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar or the Start menu, or press the Windows logo key + E.
2. Select This PC from the left pane. Then, on the Computer tab, select Map network drive.
3. In the Drive list, select a drive letter. (Any available letter will do.)
4. In the Folder box, type [4] To connect every time you log on to your PC, select the Reconnect at sign-in check box.
6. Enter your server username and password [5]
5. Select Finish.
