Backup your files

This tutorial will show you to upload your Desktop, Downloads, Documents and Pictures folder to Egnyte. Picture folder is included is scans are often saved here by default.

Step 1: Open File Explorer

  1. Click on the folder icon usually located on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen. If you can’t find it, click on the Start menu (the Windows logo at the bottom left of your screen) and type “File Explorer” in the search bar. Then click on File Explorer in the search results.

Step 2: Navigate to the User Folder

  1. In File Explorer, click on “This PC” in the left-side panel.
  2. Then double-click on the “Local Disk (C:)” or “Windows (C:)”.
  3. Now you will see several folders. Find and double-click on the “Users” folder.
  4. In the “Users” folder, double-click on the folder with your username. This folder will typically be named with the user account name you log in with.

Step 3: Copy the Required Folders

  1. Inside your user folder, you’ll see several other folders including “Desktop”, “Downloads”, “Documents”, and “Pictures”.
  2. To copy these folders, shift-click on these folders, then right click on one of the selected folders and select “Copy”.

Step 4: Copy to Egnyte Folder

  1. Go back to File Explorer (you can minimize the current window or open a new one).
  2. Click on “(Z:) productionshare” from the left-hand side menu.
  3. Click on the folder named Private > Your username
  4. Right-click in this folder and select Paste. In Windows 11, Paste is an icon at the top of the right-click menu.

    The files will copy to the folder. To check the sync status (upload) click on the Egnyte icon on the taskbar and see the text at the bottom of the pop-up Egnyte Window.

Note: To ensure a successful sync please leave your computer plugged in and powered on. If you used Egnyte in the browser, the same Private folder can be found in the left-hand sidebar.
