When you start on a production you will be invited via email. Your default access will depend on your department.
Signing into Egnyte Web
You will receive an e-mail titled “Production File Share”. Inside you can accept the invitation to set a password and verify your information. Please do not use an existing password for Egnyte or write it down. Your password can be reset from the online login.
When you are logged in to the Web App you will see a main folder for the production and sub-folders relating to your department inside. If you don’t see any folder please contact Production IT.
Signing into Egnyte Desktop
To log into Egnyte on the Desktop App:
- Download the Egnyte Desktop App here and install.
- Click on the Egnyte icon on the right side of the task bar.
- Click on “Add Drive” and log in with your user.name, the domain (productionshare.egnyte.com) and your password.
- Click on Open Folder to open the Egnyte folders in windows explorer. These folders are the are synchronized with the folders on the Web App.
- You can find these folders by opening an explorer windows and clicking on the “productionshare” drive in the sidebar.
Dos and Don’ts of Egnyte
Do:
- Use Egnyte links for all production related file sharing over email or Slack.
- Choose a passphrase instead of a password (i-looked-outside-and-saw-fluffy-clouds! from fluffyclouds1). Passphrases are highly secure and memorable.
- Use your private user folder in Egnyte to access work from home.
Don’ts:
- Log into public use/shared computers or other devices that you don’t own or administrate.
- Choose a password you’ve use for other online services. Once a password has been compromised, access can often be gained to other accounts using similar details.
- Upload scripts or takes to Egnyte.
